To register for Race For Rotary please click here. Arvada Sunrise Rotary (ASR) Club has been modeling the Rotary International motto of “Service Above Self” for twenty-five years. The ASR Club has supported local, regional and international projects through its foundation. The Club has been a major donor to Rotary’s Polio Plus effort to end polio throughout the world. Students at two Arvada high schools are recognized through the Club’s Student of the Month program. ASR’s Senior Heroes program honors senior volunteers from the community center. High school seniors have earned tens of thousands of dollars of scholarships through the SpeakUp speech contest that is based on the Rotary ethical four-way test. For several years the Club has supported Feeding the Future backpack program at an Arvada elementary school. A decade ago one of the club’s Rotarians had a vision of bringing literacy to the children of Kenya by establishing school libraries. Initially supported by the ASR Foundation, this idea has grown into an independent non-profit – SCOPE International. Over 550,000 books have been sent to establish 182 libraries. It has grown beyond libraries and has developed school based projects that address agriculture, water & sanitation, community health and small business development. Five years ago, two other Rotarians saw many hungry students in the Denver school system and created Food for Thought Denver. This project has become self-sufficient, no longer relying on the ASR Foundation. It now provides food to over 2,000 students each week. It has provided 1.4 million meals in 175,000 power sacks through seven elementary schools. We don’t know if the next challenge presented to the ASR Club will be one of literacy, hunger or something else. However, in order to be prepared we are starting, what we hope will be an annual fundraising event – Race 4 Rotary. This will be at Unser Karting, 7300 Broadway, Denver, on Sunday, August 25, 2019. We respectfully ask for your support of this new event. It is only through the support of the community that the ASR Foundation will be prepared to continue to live “Service Above Self” in Arvada, regionally and internationally.

'Arvada Veggie Van' Adventure
Sep. 10, 2019 7:00 a.m.
The Arvada Veggie Van! This service is offered by Ride Provide, Inc., a local non-profit organization. With funding and support from the City of Arvada, Jefferson County Public Health, and LiveWell Colorado, the Veggie Van brings high quality, freshly picked local produce to select areas of the city - mainly, those identified as 'food deserts.' These are neighborhoods where no fresh food retailer exists within 1/2 mile - and often made even less accessible by geography or other factors. No store? No worries! The Veggie Van will bring the best, freshest produce right into the neighborhood. |
