Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar - Peace Corp - NREL
Sep. 26, 2023 7:10 a.m.
In 2005, midway through a two-year assignment with the Peace Corps, Kristin Wegner Guilfoyle returned home to Illinois to attend a friend's wedding. That's when fate came striding down the aisle. At the reception, Wegner Guilfoyle was seated at a table with a judge who was a member of the Rotary Club of Joliet. Wegner Guilfoyle told the judge about her work with biosand water filters in the Dominican Republic. The next week, at the judge's invitation, she spoke to the Joliet club — and, after she returned to her Peace Corps posting, club members provided her with financial and practical support, as well as some invaluable guidance about the direction of her life. |

Join us at Food for Thought (FFT) MSU and help us pack PowerSacks for children in need. Volunteers help little ones bridge the hunger gap between the meals they receive at school and the weekend, when these meals are not available. Activities at FFT MSU take place outside, so please make sure you are dressed comfortably for both movement/lifting and the weather--layers are a good idea! Parking is available for free along the street and there is also a paid lot right across from the site. Volunteers must sign up to participate. Registration is easy: simply choose a date (or multiple dates) and job. Food for Thought is 100% volunteer-run, so we are incredibly grateful for our volunteers--thank you!! 1600 W. World Polio Day
Oct. 24, 2023 7:30 a.m.
On Tuesday, October 24 Arvada Rotary and Arvada Sunrise Rotary are hosting a breakfast meeting at Indian Tree Golf Club, 7555 Wadsworth Blvd at 7:30 am. Dr. Marny Eulberg, a Wheat Ridge Rotarian and polio survivor, will be our speaker. Polio eradication has been a major initiative of Rotary since the 1980s. There has been a dramatic reduction in wild polio cases since then, but there are still cases occurring. Both Arvada Club’s Foundations have agreed to each match the first $1,000 in donations from the community. Attached is a QR Code that can be used to make a donation toward eliminating polio. |

Join us for the Annual Olde Town Tree Lighting presented by School House Kitchen and Libations with our new tree on November 26!
New this year: we will have two bars which you are able to purchase alcoholic beverages from. One will be on 57th Street outside of School House, and the other will be in the blue hut next to the Skating Rink Info Booth in the Square by Olde Wads. No outside alcoholic beverages will be permitted, and security will check coolers.
The fun will start at 4:00pm with our Holiday Pop-up Makers Market, Skating Rink, and Bars being open. Live music will begin with a holiday march led by Guerrilla Fanfare through the streets of Olde Town as businesses turn on their holiday lights beginning at 5:00PM in front of Carly’s Boutique (7401 Grandview Ave). Guerrilla Fanfare will lead us to the Square, where fun holiday festivities will begin before the tree lighting at 6:00pm! After the tree lighting, enjoy live music from The Elegant Plums and shop at our Holiday Pop-up Makers Market. The Skating Rink and Bars will be open as well until 8:00pm!

Project Angel Heart was founded more than 30 years ago to address a major challenge for Coloradans who are severely ill: getting the nutrition they need to get stronger, heal, and remain at home. Many are too sick to get to the grocery store and unable to cook for themselves. Others find they have to choose whether to buy food or medication to make ends meet. That’s why Project Angel Heart prepares and delivers medically tailored meals to people living with severe illnesses. Each week, our professional chefs and registered dietitians prepare thousands of delicious meals from scratch and tailor them to meet the specific medical and dietary needs of those who are ill. Volunteers help us package and deliver each meal at no cost to our clients. |
