Space Horizons - educational STEM program in underserved communities
The program is called Space Horizons, a coalition of professionals from business, academia, science and entertainment dedicated to promoting interest in higher education, particularly STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields for at-risk students in underserved communities. Space Horizons created an after-school program that kicks off with day of celebrity inspirations in a university auditorium setting. University of Denver hosted the last session. The program then involves the kids meeting after school with science teachers and aerospace engineer-volunteers to design a satellite launch (weather balloon) with a student designed payload of experiments. The launch, tracking and recovery is the highlight of the program. This truly inspires high school students to enter engineering fields.
